Our mission is to create a community in FIRST, where people of Latinae origin feel protected, and grow confident in the world of STEM, as they explore and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math, while staying connected with their culture.
Why we started this mission

Our team realized there was a disproportionate number of Latinae students joining FIRST. We noticed that in Latinae families, STEM careers aren’t seen as a viable path to pursue due to a lack of support from their families and safe environments. Additionally, STEM careers are not a cultural norm in many Latinae families. We aim to break that cultural barrier by introducing more students to a supportive community, where they feel safe and empowered to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math, without assimilating ones culture.
